A statement condemning violence

It came to my attention late Wednesday afternoon from The Republican Party of Brown County that a former campaign volunteer had been making threats to Republicans on her own personal social media platforms.

I was also sent information about the threats from a friend, because I have had this previous volunteer blocked on all my platforms, including personal phones and devices, for some time now.

I want to make this abundantly clear. This person has nothing to do with my campaign. I have no association with them whatsoever and absolutely condemn violence and threats toward anyone.

They were a volunteer for a very short time and it quickly became apparent that they were deeply troubled. They were removed from my campaign and blocked on all my accounts and pages because they were actively creating a dangerous situation around my campaign, so I’ve been unaware that this had gone on, until my friend sent me information about it late Wednesday afternoon.

I want to be clear that I do not accept or condone violence or threats toward anyone and do not encourage violence, hate, or threats of any kind. I am a strong believer that we can disagree about politics or perspectives or ways of life and still respect one another, still help each other to live better lives, and still have discussions about our differences without resorting to violence, harm, or threats.

Even though I had no involvement with this situation, I am still genuinely sorry all this happened. The person who has been posing the threats has also made my life more dangerous because of their actions, and I understand first hand how awful this is, how awful it feels, and how absolutely unacceptable any of this is.

I hope the person in question is able to get help and find peace, and that no one becomes hurt or endangered from this senseless situation. At the end of the day, we’re all just people, all trying to live the best we can in our communities, all trying to help one another, and I’m always here to help in any way I can.
